[2008.02.20] Two cuts: Taeyeon singing “If” and Sunyeon being dorky when “Little Boat” is played in the background. The chibi leader, once again, amazes me with her vocals. Also, I’m a Taefany fan, but I can’t deny that Sunyeon is majorly cute here! full file credits: gg clubbox | slyph @soshified.com re-up

How to create an article in Joomla

Posted by admin | Posted in Joomla | Posted on 29-09-2010

I will take you through a step by step process of creating a website using the open source content management system, Joomla. A Content Management System (CMS) is basically a software package which gives you a way separating the content from the view giving you more flexibility and ease of operation and maintenance. It also provides an easy to use framework to add and publish content to your site. In some ways it is similar to WordPress but is more advanced and gives a lot more options both for view and content management.

If you need more information on what a CMS is, you check out the Wikipedia here.

You can find a lot of information at the www.joomla.org for the more advanced settings and features but I’ll do my best to give you as much information as possible.

Here’s what you will need to get started:

For now lets start with a basic local installation of Joomla on your PC. To fully implement Joomla, you will need a file system, a database and a web server. Instead of installing and configuring each of them separately, we will a package which includes all of them.

You can find these packages at http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/tools/standalone-servers which by the way is where all the extensions for Joomla are published. Extensions are a way of customizing you site with Joomla. We will go extensions a bit later in this tutorial.

Basics of Joomla

There a few major components that Joomla uses to accomplish the task and lets go through each of them one by one.

As with any CMS, any Joomla site has 2 faces, first one is what the world sees’. Its all fancy and beautiful and all your work behind the scenes is paid off here. We will refer to this part of the site as the frontend from now on.

The other side of the web-site is the administration site where you spend a major chunk of your time adding content to you site and setting up how its displayed on the frontend. This is the back end of the site.

The backend for Joomla is a very important part of your website. Everything you see on the front end is added and configured in the backend. To get to the administration page of your Joomla site, just add “/administrator” to the end of your page url.

Eg. http://localhost/Joomla/administrator/

The default username/pswd for these standalone servers is admin/admin. If that doesn’t work, you might want to check the Read Me notes that came with it.

Now that you are logged into the backend of Joomla, you should have something like this on your screen.

Statis content in Joomla is created as Articles. These articles can be placed in different Categories which in-turn are in Sections. If the article is a stand alone page and does not belong in any of these Sections, it can be left out as a “Uncategorized” which means it’s a static page by itself.

Creating an Article

To create an article simply click on the “Add new Article” icon on the dashboard or select Content à Article Manager to see this page

Click on the button  to create a new article.

You can start adding content to the text area similar to MS Word and add formatting to it. Once done you can save by clicking the Save button on the top right.

Lets create a new article called “Hello World” and make it a static page by selecting the Section as Uncategorized.

Here’s what it will look like when your done in the admin view.

And if you want to see how your article looks on your site, click the Preview button on your top right corner.

There you go, you have created an article in Joomla which is also a static page if you want it to be.

Stay tuned for more Joomla tutorials.

Maintenance Tips for Your Headlight Lenses!

Most people don’t think about their headlight lenses when washing and maintaining their car and car finish.

There are numerous products on the market for maintaining everything in and outside your vehicle, but nobody thinks about their headlight lenses until they are yellow, cloudy and ugly.

When you wash your car don’t forget about those lenses. Not only should they be cleaned but they should be protected also. The sealer provided in our restoration kit can be reapplied 4 times a year or more for best results to help give long lasting results. Remember a little goes a long way so you don’t need much for each application!! (Tip; the sealer is an Automotive Paint sealer and is designed for clear-coat protection.)

Have you thought about what would happen to your paint finish if you did not wax it from time to time?

Automotive paint sealants and waxes are what are called “sacrificial barriers”, that is they are meant to break down to the elements over time and be reapplied. This way the wax or sealant breaks down to the elements and not the vehicle’s paint finish. If it was not for this the clear-coat would have a much shorter life!

Therefore if you have just restored your headlight lenses, are thinking to or even have a vehicle that does not have damaged yellow headlights, be sure to protect the lenses! Any quality wax or sealant will work very well to extend the life of your lenses.

As a side note, you may be wondering what the difference between a wax and a sealant is, the short answer is the sealants and man made synthetic chemicals and waxes and made form he carnauba tree, and is used to make many different types of waxes.

There is some debate as to what is better. Primarily, sealers can be manipulated and manufactured with certain properties that they can not get from carnauba wax. Some detailers prefer wax others like both and some prefer sealers.

Keep in mind however, sealers cost about the same to manufacture and can only have slightly better properties than wax; so never pay considerably more for sealers than wax!

Some car manufacturers charge their customers a substantial amount to apply sealers to the cars they sell. NEVER pay for that unless it is the same or close to the same price as having the vehicle waxed.

Any outrageous claims about sealers they make are just that…outrageous! So be careful!

A dealer may charge $125 to apply $2 worth of sealer and pay their detailer $10 an hour. Dealer cost-$12.

So when it comes to protecting your vehicle’s finish don’t forget the headlights and don’t pay too much for a paint sealer. When choosing between a wax and sealant do some research and remember, 90% of the decision comes down to personal opinion and preference so you’ll have to make the final decision.

Don’t feel too bad if you have in the past, you’ve now learned from your mistake so it was an investment and now you know better; just don’t make the same mistake.

Building Your Web Forum, and What To Do With It

0

Posted by admin | Posted in phpBB | Posted on 29-09-2010

Many years since they were first introduced, internet based message boards remain as important as they have always been, if not even more so. With many new forums opening every day, it can sometimes be difficult for a new forum to attract an audience of it’s own, but having a game plan ready in advance should certainly help you. This article should help to get your planning under way, and to give a better indicator on what lies ahead.

One of the first things you will want to do for your new forum is decide how and what you will be using it for, and if you are planning to use it as a stand alone forum in place of a website, or in addition to one. When you already have a website with a dedicated following, it can help to generate interest in your forum right out of the box, and you should generally find this route easier, than if you were to try and start a brand new forum from scratch, with no audience at the ready.

Another important decision is if you want to go with a forum at a pay host, or if you want to try out a free forum host, and contrary to what some people may say, free forum hosts offer a nice starting point for new forum owners, who aren’t yet sure if they want to invest in a paid forum, which may potentially fail. Also be sure to take a look at the various types of forum software out there, and see which one looks the best to you, and has all the features that you want or need. Currently, the most popular forum software is Vbulletin, Phpbb, and Invision Power Board. While Vbulletin and Invision require buying licenses which can cost hundreds of dollars, Phpbb can be used entirely for free, assuming that you have a hosting site to place it on. There are also large numbers of lesser known forum software, many of which are also free, and could be more to your liking than Phpbb.

Depending on if your forum will be used for your business or just for recreational discussions, you may have different goals on what you hope to achieve out of a forum, and what kind of activity level you are anticipating. Most forums have a staff of at least a few people to help out around the forum, and to be there for members when you can’t be. Finding willing staffers for a business forum without being prepared to pay them can sometimes be difficult, so be sure that whoever you pick is reliable and trustworthy. Even non-business forums are often in need of a staff, to help the forum’s community to grow, and to keep the existing user base happy and healthy.

Picking an easy to remember, but unique name for your forum can also help to attract and retain members, and generally shorter names are better for this, but not always. You want to pick a name that people will associate with your forum, so be sure that the name suits whatever your forum is about.
