The guys from vBulletin wouldn’t believe me when I said that phpBB 3 generated pages faster than vBulletin 4 on my server (using Caucho’s Resin version 4.0.7 instead of Apache). They insisted that what I was talking about was page rendering time in my browser. Since they were assuming that I didn’t know what I was talking about, and I have no intention of going into a multi-page forum discussion on my credentials and why I’m not as ignorant as they think I am, I simply remoted into my server with my VNC client, and recorded the CPU spikes while loading the pages. As you can clearly see, phpBB 3 not only tends to be faster at generating pages, but it also has a lower load on my server. If I was ever having server load issues due to a forum, it looks like switching to phpBB 3 would solve the problem. Since that is not an issue, I will stick with vBulletin 4, as it most certainly has more features and functionality than phpBB 3 (even if vBulletin’s [code] tag does suck). ***NOTE*** In the video, when I say "This will ensure that we get a fairly accurate test", what I am referring to is the fact that loading images from the server takes bandwidth and uses some CPU time as the server sends the images.
